David L. Zaves, 66, Phillips, died at his home on Monday, September 30, while under the care of his family and Flambeau Home Health and Hospice. He was born on April 8, 1947, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Julius and Julia Zaves. He attended St. Veronica Grade School, and St. John Cathedral High School in Milwaukee. He was married to Marge Dassow in Medford on November 18, 1967. In his working career he worked in a hardware store, as a postal worker, as the Phillips Branch Manager for Northwestern Loan, and then was employed by Industrial Air Products until the time of his retirement. He was a member of St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, of the Lions Club, WBCAA Coaches Association, the Phillips Booster Club, he coached Babe Ruth and boy’s basketball, served as an umpire and referee, served as Secretary for the Men’s Bowling League, served as a Phillips Alderman, President of the Little League, he was a big supporter of his grandchildren’s sports, served as a vendor at County Stadium in Milwaukee, enjoyed casino trips, and was a member of the Phillips Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by his wife, Marge; by five children, Michael (Kelly), Appleton, Mark (Crystal), Appleton, Christopher (Tara), Evansville, IN, Jeffery (Gloria), Menasha, and Daniel (Jamie), Colorado Springs, CO; by seven grandchildren, Cassie, Breana, Evan, Mason, Maddie, Jacob, and Cameron; and by one sister, Audrey Kusch, Phillips. He is preceded in death by one sister, Mary Ann; and by one brother, Lawrence.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, October 4, at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church in Phillips with Father Shaji Pazhukkathara celebrating the Funeral Mass. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
