Edith Dorothy Knapp, 81, Tomahawk, former Phillips resident
Edith Dorothy Knapp, 81, Tomahawk, former Phillips resident, died in the Sacred Heart Hospital in Tomahawk on Friday, February 21, 2014. She was born on April 30, 1932, in Catawba, Wisconsin, the daughter of Oscar and Evelyn (Halmstad) Helland. She was married to Robert Loomis in Catawba in 1954, and they later divorced. She was married to Leo Knapp in Catawba on May 23, 1964. She earned her Teaching Degree and taught in rural schools, served as the Church Secretary at the Full Gospel Lighthouse Church for 20 years, and was also employed by the Phillips Chamber of Commerce and the US Forest Service in Park Falls. She is a member of the Northland Bible Church of Ladysmith, and formerly a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church of Catawba, Saint John Lutheran Church of Phillips, and of the Full gospel Lighthouse Church of Phillips. She served as a volunteer for the Merrill Red Cross, the Reading Mother’s Program at Saint John Lutheran Church in Phillips, and taught Sunday School at several churches.
She is survived by one son, Dale (Kay) Knapp, Tomahawk; by two daughters, Susan (Jim) Ziegler, Marine on St. Croix, MN, and Nina (Harley) Knapp Jebens, Atlanta, GA; by three grandchildren, Cody Knapp, Clarissa Knapp, and Parker Ziegler; by one sister, Lois Goode, Ladysmith; by one brother, Gordon “Gordy” Helland, Catawba; and by one sister-in-law, Janet Helland, Edgerton, WI. Three brothers, Lloyd, Earl, and Ronald Helland precede her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 12:Noon on Monday, February 24, at the Heindl Funeral Home in Phillips with Pastor Joel DeFord of the Northland Bible Church of Ladysmith officiating. Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Phillips. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of services.
