Eileen Schraufnagel, Mellen



Eileen Schraufnagel passed away at Mellen Manor Nursing Home on July 4, 2012.

She was born in Prentice, WI on July 6, 1926. Her parents were Frank and Elizabeth (Lucas) Fischbach.

She attended Most Precious Blood Catholic School, Glidden High School, and Milwaukee Business Institute where she was a member of Beta Chi Rho.

After graduating from MBI, she worked for Ideals Publishing Co.

She returned to Glidden to work in the IGA grocery store with her parents and later with her husband Glen Mitchell until Glen’s sudden death in 1953. In 1956, she married Rhynold Schraufnagel.

Eileen was a volunteer on local, county, and state levels with the American Cancer Society for 38 years. She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross for 57 years. In 2004 she was recognized with the Clara Barton Honor Award, the highest award the American Red Cross bestows on volunteers. She was also a member of St. Anne’s’ Sodality, N.E.W. Koinonia Board, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Eileen enjoyed playing cards, oil painting, golfing, sunsets, traveling, and casinos.

Eileen was preceded in death by her sister, Donna Fischbach; husband, Glen Mitchell; parents, Frank and Beth Fischbach; husband, Rhynold Schraufnagel and daughter, Vicki Mitchell.

She is survived by daughter Ginny Mackles of Millwood, NY, son Frank (Kathy) Schraufnagel of Glidden, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral service to be held Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in Glidden with visitation from 9:00am-11:00am, service at 11:00am. Internment to follow at Most Precious Blood Catholic Cemetery. Father Dean Buttrick officiating.
