Helen Ann Zikan, 89, Kennan



Helen Ann Zikan, 89, Kennan, died on Friday, February 1, 2013,  in the Ladysmith Care Community in Ladysmith.  She was born Helen Kraimer on Marcy 23, 1923, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Ellman) Kraimer.  She was a 1941 graduate of the Phillips High School.  She was married to Anthony Zikan in St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kennan on April 27, 1943.  She and Anthony operated a dairy farm in the Town of Georgetown.  In 1961 in addition to their farming they operated the Coast to Coast Hardware in Catawba and in 1967 purchased Wick’s Grocery.  The businesses, Zikan’s, are  operated by the family in Catawba to this day.  She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church of Catawba, and of the VFW Ausillary.  In her free time she enjoyed playing cards with her friends, gardening, and in latter years after Anthony’s death she enjoyed travel.     She is survived by four children, Daniel, Catawba, Cheryl (Dennis) Bader, Hawkins, Gregory, Kennan, and Randal (Jean), Phillips; by 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; and by three sisters, Theresa Collins, Lake Tomahawk, WI, Lucille McCarthy, Owensboro, Kentucky, and Sylvia (Dwain) Pierrard, Del Ray Beach, FL.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Anthony; by one sister, Elsie Kraimer; and by one brother , who gave all for his country during WWII, Harold Kraimer.
     Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 9, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Catawba with Father Gerald Hagen celebrating the Funeral Mass.  Interment will be in the Kennan Cemetery in Kennan.  Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
     The Heindl Funeral Home in Phillips is assisting the family with arrangements.
