(veteran)Joseph J. Balzer
age 95, of Park Falls, died on Thursday January 30, 2014 at Park Manor Nursing Home in Park Falls. He was born in Park Falls on August 17, 1918, the son of Joseph and Mary (Kaiser) Balzer. His early life and schooling were in Park Falls. After his schooling he traveled the railroads, having many adventures and also worked in logging and construction. Joseph entered the United States Army Air Corps and served during WWII in the Pacific Theater. On August 17, 1948 he married Lillian Woodie in Park Falls. Joseph worked for the Flambeau Paper Mill for 39 years. He was a member of the Park Falls VFW Post. He enjoyed fishing with his buddies, tinkering and inventing things, working on small engines, making boomerangs. Joseph also enjoyed dancing and music, playing the accordion, harmonica, guitar, and piano. He was a loving and patient man and will be sadly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and (3)brothers: Tony, Frank, and Harry Balzer and (4)sisters: Rose Patch, Mary Kitten, Anne Wittman, and Mildred Corsi.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday February 5, 2014 from St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Park Falls. Fr. Shaji Pazhukkarthara will officiate. Military Honors under the auspices of the Park Falls American Legion and VFW Posts will follow the service.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday at the church from 10:00am until the hour of the service.
Interment will take place at a later date at Nola Cemetery in Park Falls.
The Novitzke Funeral Home is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the St. Anthony School fund would be appreciated.
