Carl John “Hot Cal” Heikkinen Jr, 91, Brantwood, died Friday, June 22, 2012, at the Golden Living Center-Riverview in Tomahawk.
Carl was born on August 13, 1920, in Brantwood to Kalle Sr. and Katri Keikkinen. Until his admittance to Riverview a month ago, he was proud to say he was sleeping in the same room he was born in. He married Ilene Nelson on October 19, 1946, in Prentice. She died on September2, 1989. His special friend Pearl Watkins died in 2011.
Carl was a lifelong dairy farmer, tree farmer, and logger, in partnership with his brother Bill. He was an excellent bowler and horseshoe thrower, earning many trophies. He loved watching the Packers, Bucks, and Brewers.
Survivors include all nine of his children, Karen (Ronald) Sandquist, Wausau, Alan “Yaw” (Paige), Tomahawk, Linda (Carl) Halverson, Tomahawk, James “Jumbo” (Linda), Brantwood, Patricia Heikkinen, Tomahawk, Robert “Screwey” (Shirlee), Brantwood. Mary (Jeffrey) Petersen, Prentice, Thomas “Maggot” (Diane), Brantwood, and Terrance “Mug” (Pamela), Prentice; by one sister, Ingrid Vilkaitis, Avon Park, FL; by 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ilene, on Sept 2, 1989; by his special friend, Pearl Marie Watkins; by six brothers; and by two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 26, at the Heindl Funeral Home in Prentice with Pastor Michael Meier officiating. Friends may call at the funeral Home on Tuesday from 12:30 P.M. until the time of services. Burial will be in the Prentice Cemetery in Prentice.
