Arvella Zoesch-Losby
age 105, of Springstead, passed away on Friday September 28, 2012 at Park Manor Nursing Home in Park Falls. She was born on December 22, 1906 in Butternut, the daughter of Paul and Alvina (Yankee) Zoesch. She was raised on the farm, where, after her mother died at a young age, during the winter months, she helped her step-mother, Emma, hand stitch quilts for her siblings, which are now family heirlooms. Eventually, she went to Milwaukee, and graduated from Le Claire Beauty School. She was a hairdresser in Ashland. Later, she was a waitress at the Big Musky Resort in Springstead, where she met and married her husband Freddie Losby. They were married on December 12, 1934 in Butternut and settled in the Springstead area, where they worked at various resorts. Arvella was a waitress and Freddie was a fishing guide. From 1941-1951 she and Freddie lived in Seattle, WA, returning to Springstead where Arvella became a cook for eleven years at the Springstead School. Arvella and Freddie also owned and operated Losby's White Birch Resort on McDermott Lake, where Arvella lived the remainder of her life.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Freddie, (4)sisters: Nora (Gaab) Wartgow, Viola Wendland, Pauline Bentz, and Meta Wegner, her brother Fred Zoesch, her half-sister: Enith Klein, and step sister Christine Scheufler, and all their spouses. She was also preceded in death by several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday October 2, 2012 at 10:00am from St. Paul'sLutheran Church in Butternut. Rev. John A. Deitz will officiate.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday at the church from 9:00am until the hour of the service.
Interment will take place at Nola Cemeteryin Park Falls.
