(veteran) Sylvester Shilts
age 82, of Fifield, died on Sunday October 28, 2012 at Park Manor Nursing Home in Park Falls. He was born on June 11, 1930 in Morse, the son of Roy and Mary (Flynn) Shilts. His early life and schooling were in Glidden. After his schooling he served his country in the United States Navy. On August 19, 1961 he married Natalie Olson in Silver Bay, MN. The couple lived in Tofte, MN for many years. Sylvester worked as a logger in the early years. In 1968 he started with Consolidated Papers rafting logs across Lake Superior with a tug boat before becoming a Heavy Equipment Operator. In 1981 he was transferred to the Fifield Landing. He retired in 1991. Sylvester loved the woods, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was also an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers.

He was preceded in death by his parents and (11)brothers and sisters: Irene Thorp, Wilbert Shilts, Norbert Shilts, Laura Neibauer, Mary Wolf, James Shilts, Florence Kmetz, Wanetta “Sissy”, Roy Shilts, William Shilts, and Byron Shilts.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday November 1, 2012 at 10:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fifield. Fr. Shaji Pazhukkathara will officiate.
Burial will follow at Forest Home Cemetery in Fifield with military honors under the auspices of the Fifield American Legion Post.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm with a Parish Prayer Vigil at 7:30pm at the Novitzke Funeral Home in Park Falls. A visitation will also be held on Thursday at the funeral home from 8:00am until 9:00am before proceeding to the church for Mass.
There will be no visitation at the church.
