Norma J. Barnes, 85, Park Falls, died on Sunday Morning October 28, 2012, at the Park Manor Nursing Home, Park Falls. She was born on April 10, 1927, in Argonne, South Dakota, the daughter of Gerald and Mary (Pickell) Bandy. She spent her early life and schooling in South Dakota. She attended and graduated from Onida High School, Onida, South Dakota, with the Class of 1945. She then completed education to become a teacher and taught from 1945 to 1948 She was married to John O. Barnes on July 9, 1948, in Aberdeen, S.Dakota. They made their home in South Dakota until 1963. They then lived in Wisconsin and California until the time of their retirement. Upon retirement they returned to North Dakota. Her husband John preceded her in death on Sept. 7, 1987. Mrs. Barnes moved to Wisconsin in 2003.Throughtout her working career she was a school teacher, a ceramic factory worker, a clerk typist, a control clerk and a teachers aide.
In her free time she was active in her church, enjoyed playing the organ, singing, cooking and, collecting recipes and cookbooks
Locally she was a member of Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, Park Falls, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star
She is survived by 3 children: John (Georgeta) Barnes, Chino, Ca., Mary (Rick) Grissmeyer, Park Falls, and Jeff (Jackie) Barnes, Riverside, Ca , by 8 grandchildren ,and 7 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Sept. 7, 1987, by her parents, by 5 brothers: Morris, Claude, Clifford, Kenneth and Glen.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2012, at 1:00 P.M. at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, Park Falls, with Vicar Gwen Downing officiating. Inurnment will be in the Oaks View Cemetery, Oakes, North Dakota, at a later date. Friends may call from Noon on Thursday, at the church until the time of the service.
