
Joanne Marie Calhoun, 73, Catawba, died at her home on Sunday, January 20, while under the care of her family and Flambeau Home Health and Hospice. She was born on July 19, 1939, in Catawba, the daughter of Joseph and Lucille Makovsky. She was married to Elmer Calhoun in Catawba on June 22, 1957. She owned and operated Jo and Flo’s Cleaning Service with Florence Makovsky for many years. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church of Catawba, and of the Drift Splitters Snowmobile Club. In her free time she enjoyed gardening, fishing, snowmobiling, garage sailing, and was known for her collections of salt and pepper shakers and depression glass. She is survived by five children, Laurie (Dan) Sylvia, Park Falls, Tracy (Charlie) Williams, Catawba, Wesley (Sandie), Dorchester, Dana (Donna), Phillips, and Brian, Unity; by 18 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; and by 11 brothers and sisters, Ronald (Margie) Makovsky, Catawba, Diana (Matt) Timmers, Medford, Dan (Florence) Makovsky, Medford, Lawrence (Kathy) Makovsky, Catawba, Dennis Makovsky, Medford, Donna (Mike) Karas, Mt. Horeb, WI, Richard (Cheryl) Makovsky, Medford, MaryJean (Lester) Peterson, Prentice, David Makovsky, Medford, Bill Makovsky, Tony, and Bonnie Martin, San Antonio, TX. She is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, on June 22, 1957; by one brother, Raymond Makovsky; by one infant son, Little Elmer; by one granddaughter, Stacy Ann; and by one great grandson, Channing.
The Heindl Fuenral Home in Phillips is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
