Steve Novak, 95, Kennan, died on Monday, January 22, 2013, in the Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home in Phillips while under the care of Flambeau Home Health and Hospice. He was born in Catawba, Wisconsin, on May 31, 1917, the son of John and Johanna (Zborek) Novak. He served his country during WWII from 1941 to 1945 in the United States Air Force. He was married to Kathryn “Kay” Adomaitis in St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kennan on November 25, 1951. He operated a dairy farm, worked at the cranberry marsh, at Zorn’s Cheese Factory, and then for many years until the time of his retirement was employed by NORCO in Hawkins. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church of Catawba, of the American Legion, and of the United Brotherhood of Jointers and Carpenters. In his free time he enjoyed gardening, walking, trapping, hunting, sitting on the front porch, and cutting firewood. He is survived by four children, Patricia (Robert) Gehring, Kennan, Michael (Margaret), Kennan, Thomas, Kennan, and Mary (Mark) Lasee, Florence, Wisconsin; by 10 grandchildren, and by 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn on April 5, 2008; by eight brothers, Frank, John, Tony, Lawrence, Charlie, Andy, Joe, and infant John; and by one sister, Mary Martinek.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, January 25, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Catawba with Father Dennis Meulemans celebrating the Funeral Mass. Interment will be in the Kennan Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
