Arland Gene Hultman, 84, Ogema, died in Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau on Tuesday, January 29, 2013. He was born on July 30, 1928, in Medford, Wisconsin, the son of Fritiof and Julia Hultman.He attended the Norland School, the Stone Lake School , and Forest View Elementary School and was a 1947 graduate of the Rib Lake High School. He worked in Chicago Illinois as a school custodian for a number of years. He then rode his bike from Illinois to Minnesota and then on to North Dakota where he worked on a farm and spent time with relatives for a year. He then rode his bike to the Canadian border to find the homestead. He then returned to Wisconsin where he worked on farms around home and worked in the woods cutting pulp. He worked in Wausau as a furnace salesman, he then worked for Goede Farm for 7 years and then moved on to Oregon where he worked in a box factory and on farms for 10 years. He then returned home to Wisconsin where he worked on farms and in the woods, and then at last for Marathon Box for 5 years until he was laid off when the mill burned down. He enjoyed many long bike trips and at one time biked all the way West to the Pacific Ocean, he enjoyed history, nature, wildlife, animals and cats.
He is survived by one brother, Melvin (Kathleen), Ogema; and by one cousin, Wayne Schmidt, Athens, WI. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 2, at the Heindl Funeral Home in Prentice with Brother Edwin Blomberg officiating. Interment will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in the Town of Hill. Friends may call at the funeral Home on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
