August P. Macholl, 85, died on Monday, February 11, 2013, at the Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home, Phillips. He was born on August 30, 1927, in Ogema, the second youngest child of nine to John and Anna (Ohrstrom) Macholl. He was a lifelong resident of Price County. He was educated in Catawba. He served his country in the US. Army Air Force from to . He was married to Viola Hinsa on October 27, 1951, in Prentice. She preceded him in death on July 4, 2003. They celebrated over 50 years of marriage He was employed in the construction trades until 1954. They then purchased and operated the family dairy farm and was a logger from 1954 until the time of their retirement in 1990.
In his free time he enjoyed trapping, snowmobling, ATV’s traveling, going out to eat, and spending time with his family and friends.
He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Catawba, the Knights of Columbus Council #2963, and a former member of the National Farmers Organization.
He is survived by 6 children: Darlene Froeming, Kennan, Diana Tead, Minocqua, Daniel (Anna) Macholl and Michael (Mary) Macholl, all of Catawba, Colleen (Mark) Nelson, Star Prairie, Wi., and August Macholl, Catawba, by 18 grandchildren 6 great grandchildren, by 1 sister-in-law: Lorena Macholl and by 1 brother-in-law Kaarlo Hinsa, Tomahawk.
He was preceded in death by his wife Viola, by 1 son Brian, and by 3 sons-in-law; David Froeming, Ned Tead and Jack Dalum.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, February 15, 2013, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Catawba, with Fr. Gerald Hagen officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Southern Price County VFW Post #8491 Interment will be in the Catawba Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church from 6:00 P.M , where a parish wake service will be conducted by Deacon James Celba at 7:00 P.M.
