Melvin Lee Meives, 55, Phillips, died at his home in Phillips while under the care of his family and Flambeau Home Health and Hospice, on Saturday, March 23. He was born in Phillips on December 6, 1957, the son of Marion and Rosella (Niessen) Meives. He attended the Phillips High School. He was married to Jean Russell for 32 years and they later divorced. He was employed by G0odyear Tire in St. Paul, by Hutchenson Tire in Minneapolis, and then worked in the Phillips area as a bartender. He was a member of the Minnesota Street Rod Association. In his fee time he enjoyed working on cars, fishing, artistic metal working, restoring cars, repairing lawnmowers and racing them.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
The Heindl Funeral Home in Prentice is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
