Robert “Bob” Leon Wanish, 53, of Catawba, WI, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. Bob was born September 7, 1959, in Ladysmith, WI, to John and Mary (Rafko) Wanish. The youngest of four children, he was raised on the family farm in Catawba. He attended Phillips High School, graduating in 1977. Bob graduated from UW River Falls in 1981 with a Bachelors Degree in Broad Area Agriculture with a Minor in Conservation. He was married to Laurie Stunkel at Zion Lutheran Church in Kennan, WI, on October 1, 1983. They own and operate a 300 acre dairy farm, a third generation farm, in the Township of Catawba. He was also employed for 22 years by NorthStar Select Sires as an Al Tech in Price and Rusk Counties. He was a Catawba Town Supervisor for six years, the Town Chairman for the Town of Catawba for the past 14 years, the President of the Catawba-Harmony Fire Department for the past six years, and the President of the Prentice Ambulance Service Board for the last six years.
In his free time, Bob was an avid outdoorsman. Not only did he make a living working the land, he also enjoyed hunting, including mule deer hunts out West with family and friends. Whenever he had the opportunity, he would visit area fishing holes and often brought home fish when others came home empty. He and Laurie enjoyed watching their children grow up playing sports, and he was a big fan of the Packers, Brewers, and Cubs (when they were not playing the Brewers). He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church of Catawba.He is survived by his wife, Laurie; by four children, Afton (Dean) Tarasewicz, La Crosse, WI, BJ (Anna Frederick), Phillips, Derek, Catawba, and Courtney (Casey Williams), Fargo, ND; by brother Kerry, Cambodia, sister June (Len) Gilbertson, Maiden Rock, WI, and brother Dan, Catawba; and by many loving nieces, nephews, and family members. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Wanish.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 6, at St. paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Catawba with Pastor Thomas Reiff of Bethany Lutheran Church officiating. Friends may call at the church on Friday, April 5, after 5:00 P.M. and on Saturday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services. Inurnment will be in the Catawba Cemetery in Catawba,
