Joy M. Brayton, Phillips

Joy M. Brayton, Phillips, longtime Kennan resident died on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at the Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home, Phillips. She was born on August 18, 1923, in Bayfield, Wi., the daughter of Harvey and Henrietta (Worsech) Soetebeer. She made her home in Kennan with her family as a child. She attended the Johnston Grade School in Kennan, attended and graduated from the Phillips High School Class of 1940., and then continued her education by attending the Price County Normal School where she received her teaching certificate. She then taught at various one room school houses in the Kennan area. She was married to William “Bill” Brayton on June 27, 1944, in Kennan. He preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 1997.
She was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Kennan and Phillips a member of the Kennan Homemakers, the American Legion Auxillary and a 4H leader for many years.
In her free time she enjoyed music, gardening, and handiwork.
She is survived by her 8 children:William “Bill”  (Joan) Brayton, Medford, Dennis (Beverly) Brayton, Catawba, DeEtta (Larry) Peterson, Stratford, Dean (Paty) Brayton, Spooner, Sheryl “Sherry” (Duane) Barnet, Catawba, Janet (Tom) Barnet, Marathon City, Wi., Beth (Gary) Haskins, Green Bay., and Kay (Michael) Timm, Watertown, Wi., by 22 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and by 1 brother: Dr. Warren (Jan) Soeteber, Sheboygan, Wi.
She was preceded in death by her husband William on Jan. 15, 1997, by her parents, by 1 brother David Soetebeer, and by 1 granddaughter Jane.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the United Methodist Church, Phillips, with Pastor Loretta Waughtal officiating. Interment will be in the Kennan Cemetery, Kennan. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. on Saturday at the church until the time of the service.
