John B. Zohimsky, 87, Phillips




John B. Zohimsky, 87. longtime Phillips resident, died on Thursday, October 10, 2013, at the Flambeau Hospital, Park Falls. He was born on May 25, 1926, in Phillips the son of Charles and Katherine Nanista. His Mother and Father died when John was an infant He was raised by his Godparents Martin and Magdalene Zohimsky who later adopted him. .John attended and graduated from Phillips High School with the Class of 1944. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and fought courageously in the Eurpoean Theatre of Action. He received 5 bronze Stars and 5 Purple Hearts for his bravery.
He was employed at various occupations including raking cranberries, cutting pulpwood, tree farming and for many years prior to his retirement worked in road maintenance for the Price County Highway Department.
He was a member of St. Therese of Lesieux Cathilic Church, Phillips, the Lane-Kreiling American Legion Post #122, the D.A.V.,and the Frank and Michael Baran VFW Post #5778 where he was active member of the funeral honor guard for over 37 years. In his free time he enjoyed the outdoors, watching the Packers and hunting and fishing.
He is survived locally by Stanley (Diana) Karpinski, Philips, Patricia Crepinsek ,and, Michelle (Ron) Herbst  and their daughter Hannah all of Park Falls, by Christine Crepinsek-(Scott Holoubek)_ Phillips and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents. By his adoptive parents, by his sisters Margaret and Patricia and by 3 brothers: Joseph, Charles and George
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Therse of Lesieux Catholic Church, Phillips with Fr. Gerald Hagen officiating. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Phillips with military honors conducted by the Lane- Kreiling American Legion Post #122, and the Frank and Michael Baran VFW Post #5778
both of Phillips. Friends may call after 10:00 A.M. at the church on Tuesday until the time of the service
