May N. Stotka, 87, Worcester, died on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. She was born on February 27, 1926, in Marshall, Minnesota, the daughter of Eugene and Bertha (Palmer) Surprenant. She came to Price County as a child with her parents. She attended the Martins Mill School, then attended and graduated from Phillips High School, Class of 1945. She was married to Joseph Stotka on September 1, 1948, at the former St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Phillips. After marriage she helped her husband Joseph on their dairy farm, she was the Clerk for the Township of Worcester for 8 years and was the chart changer for Northern Natural Gas for over 30 years. In her free time she enjoyed reading.
She was a member of St. Therese of Lesieux Catholic Church, Phillips and the First Slovak Catholic Ladies Assn.
She is survived by her husband of over 65 years, Joseph Township of Worcester, by 2 sons: John and Andrew both of Phillips, by 2 brothers: Clifton (Carol) Surprenant Phillips,
and James (Arlene) Surprenant Epping, New Hampshire and by 1 sister Grace Upson, Phillips.
She was preceded in death by her parents, by 1 daughter Marie and by 2 brothers Albert and Donald Surprenant.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at St. Therese of Lesieux Catholic Church, Phillips, with Fr. Gerald Hagen and Deacon James Celba officiating. Interment will be in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Phillips. Friends may call after 5:30 P.M. on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at St. Therese of Lesieux Catholic Church, where a parish wake service will be held at 7:00 P.M., and also on Wednesday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service at the church.
