Marla M. Hammond McCarthy, 62, Phillips died at her home under the care of her family and CHR Home Health Care on Monday, November 18, 2013.. She was born on October 18, 1951, in Lancaster, Wi., the daughter of Virgil and Ruby (Glasbrenner) Hammond. She spent her early life and schooling in Fennimore, Wi. Following her education she was employed as a CNA at nursing homes in Madison, New Glarus and Fennimore prior to her retirement. She was also the caregiver for her Mother for many years due to her ill health. She was married to Lavern Fry in 1970 in Platteville. They later divorced. She made her home in Phillips in 2005 with her sister Christine Korab. She was then married to Patrick McCarthy in Phillips. They later divorced.
In her free time she enjoyed her two dogs Maple Rose and Izzy, playing Darts, spending time with her family and friends, and walking.
She is survived by 2 sons: Lavern Fry, Jr., Stitzer, Wi., and Matthew (Misty) Fry, Fennimore, Wi., by 1 daughter Sandy Fry, Fennimore, by 3 grandchildren: McCalla, Ashley and Hailey Bion., by 2 sisters Christine Korab, Phillips, and Linda Hammond by 1 brother Tim (Sara) Giesen, Potosi, Wi., Fennimore, by special friends Lucille Korab and Kim Hintz.
She was preceded in death by her parents by 1 brother Leonard Hammond and 1 sister Joan Hammond.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, November 22, 2013 at the Heindl Funeral Home, Phillips, with Pastor Christian Markle of the Maranatha Baptist Church of Phillips officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 A.M. on Friday until the time of the service.
