David E. Sommers, Sr., 90, Phillips, died on Monday, January 13, 2014, at the Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home under the care of Flambeau Home Health Care and Hospice. He was born on May 14, 1923, in Fifield the son of Fred and Irene (Bruce) Warren. He spent his early life and schooling in Price County. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WW2 in Italy, where he received a Purple Heart. Following military service he was employed at various occupations including; ownership of a grocery store, a house painter, was chief engineer for radio stations in Park Falls and Eagle River, was an installer and service technician for cable systems, and also owned Maybe TV repair and sales prior to his retirement. In his free time he enjoyed gardening, fishing in Canada, deer and duck hunting, spending time with family and friends and small electronic projects He was married and preceded in death by his wives Helen, Dorothy, Marlene, Alice and Laverne.
He was a former member of local VFW Posts in Price County.
He is survived by 3 sons: Robert Sommers, Reedsburg, Wi., David Jr., and William Sommers, Phillips, by 4 daughters; Mary Sommers, Phillips, Patti Winn, Prentice, Linda (Paul) Green, Cookeville,Tenn., Cathleen (Gordon) Tihlarik, Phillips, and by 6 Step Children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his wives Helen, Dorothy, Marlene, Alice, and Laverne, by 1 brother Robert Rhicter, 1 sister Blanche Hoffman and by 1 granddaughter Shawn Lynn.
There are no services planned at this time. A graveside service will held later in the spring.
