Herbert Joseph Peissig, 85, Phillips, died at his home on Wednesday, February 19, while under the care of his family and Flambeau Home Health and Hospice. He was born on September 7, 1928, in the Town of Little Black to Edward and Emma Peissig. He was married to Bertha Benda in Phillips on January 10, 1956, and she preceded him in death on January 10, 1987. He was married to Jeanette Larson on June 19, 1992, in Phillips. He worked as a logger for many years, and then for the Georgia Pacific Company in Phillips until the time of his retirement. In his free time he enjoyed gardening and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; by three sons, Kelly, Land O Lakes, WI, Wayne (Debbie), Phillips, and Terry, Phillips; by two step children, Leon (Nancy) Smetak, Phillips, and Kathy (Wally) Kenzke, Phillips; by 17 grandchildren and by great grandchildren; and by two sisters, Ellen (Robert) Dunbar, Phillips, and Donna (Frank) Jasurda, Phillips. He is preceded in death by one step son, James Smetak.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
