Margaret A. Mintal. 100, Phillips, passed away on Friday morning, March 21, 2014, at the Aspirus Hospice House in Wausau.
She was born on March 30, 1913, in Holland, Michigan, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Veles) Palko. She spent most of her life in the Phillips area. She was married to Joseph J. Mintal on October 27, 1954, in Phillips. She was a member of St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, and the Frank and Michael Baran VFW #5778 Auxiliary.
Margaret was a wonderful homemaker who gardened, canned, baked, knitted, crocheted and sewed. She is most known for the many (close to 100) Raggedy Ann dolls that she made for family members and also donated. She also made an equal amount of baby Afghans that she shared with many and especially liked to donate to her favorite charity, St. Vincent De Paul for the children in need. Margaret and Joe farmed well into their later years
She is survived by one daughter Jean (Bill) Cooper, Rothschild, Wi., and grandchildren Chase, Wausau, and Chelsea, Jackson Hole, Wy., and many treasured nieces and nephews that called, wrote letters and sent cards to her on a regular basis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Joseph, on December 2, 2011, by four brothers Frank (WWII), Joseph, Michael and Ernest Palko, and by three sisters, Mary Pazin, Kathryn Janak, and Anne Raskie.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, with Fr. Gerald Hagen officiating. Interment will be in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Phillips, in the spring. A VFW Auxiliary service will be held at the church conducted by the Frank and Michael Baran VFW Post #5778. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
