Retta L. Wilund, 92, Phillips, died on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at the Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home, Phillips. She was born on August 23, 1921, in Arkansaw, Wi., the daughter of Ralph and Rose (Swartz) Doughty. She spent her early life and schooling in the Arkansaw area. She graduated from Durand High School, Class of 1938. She was one of three children that was raised by her aunt and uncle Grace and Owen Metcalf. She was married to Herbert Edgar Wilund on Nov. 16, 1952, in Prentice. He preceded her in death on Sept. 29, 1987. Following their marriage they moved to Prentice. They then made their home in Ogema where they owned and operated a dairy farm until 1965. They then returned to Prentice where they resided until 1989. She then made her home in Phillips in 1989. She made her home at Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home in 2008.
In her working career she was employed at various occupations including; a cook and janitor at the Prentice School District, as an EMT, a fireguard at Omark Industries in Prentice, a CNA at Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home, and the Golden Living Center, Rib Lake, and as a baker at Copps IGA in Phillips, prior to her retirement. In her free time she enjoyed cake decorating, gardening and quilting.
She was actively involved with the Prentice Pioneers 4-Hclub for many years.
She is survived by her 9 children: Wanda Hoffeditz, Manteno, Ill., Sheila Wilund, Plover, Wi., Owen (Cindy) Wilund, Crivitz, Wi., Herbert Wilund and Grace Wilund both Phillips, Connie Hudak, Ogema, Randy Wilund, Prentice, Judy (Fred) Freeman, Brantwood, and Joyce (Jim) Carlson, Prentice, by 27 grandchildren, and numerous great and great- great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her husband Herbert Edgar on Sept. 29, 1987
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at the Maranatha Baptist Church, Phillips, with Pastor Christian Markle officiating. Inurnment will be in the Prentice Cemetery, Prentice, in the summer.. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at the church until the time of the service.
A Memorial Fund has been established for Flambeau Home Health Care and Hospice.
The Heindl Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangments.
