Richard Francis "Buddy" Hilgart, 95, Park Falls


Richard Francis “Buddy” Hilgart
Age 95 of Park Falls, passed away on May 17, 2014 at Park Manor Nursing Home. He was born on January 20, 1919 in Park Falls, the son of Michael Jr. and Eva (Cahill) Hilgart.  His early life and schooling where in Park Falls, and he became a lifelong resident of the Park Falls/Fifield area. In 1939 he married Fern L. Davis in Minnesota. He was drafted into the Army on June 22, 1944 and served in WWII, and was discharged on November 18, 1945. He then moved back to Park Falls and worked at the Paper Mill as a supervisor for over 39 years. Richard was also a member of the American Legion Post 182, and went in the Freedom Flight to Washington D.C. in 2013. He enjoyed many things, including: hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, playing cards, shooting pool and darts, throwing horseshoes, wood working, making wine and gardening flowers, fruits and vegetables. He played the drums for many years including with local polka bands, taught polka and dance lessons, and
was in the Drum and Bugle Corps. Also, was in early Minstrel Shows with the J.C. Group. Was a volunteer for Meals On Wheels. He loved to eat and make sourkraut and dumplings. He made them for American Legion membership drives, and even won an award. Bud also sang in the local church choir for many years, helped maintain the Greenfield School in Fifield in his Historical Society membership, baked many goodies for employees at Park Manor Nursing Home and other events. Most recently enjoyed weekly Wednesday Fifield senior luncheons, and loved spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Fern in 2003, (2)Sons: Richard T. “Rick” Hilgart in 1998 and Kurt R. Hilgart in 1994. (1)Daughter-in-law: Virginia Hilgart in 2013. And (1) Son-in-law: Robert Radlinger in 1979.

(2)Sisters: Marjorie “Dolly” Peterson and Infant Cleo Rae.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday May 22, 2014 at 11:00 am at the  Peace Lutheran Church in Park Falls.  Pastor Dale Heinlein will officiate.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday May 22, 2014 at 10:00 am at the Church until the hour of service.
Burial will follow at Forest Home Cemetery with military honors under the auspices of the Park Falls American Legion and VFW Posts
